Daly City Operation Santa Claus

The Daly City Operation Santa Claus believes that no child should be without a toy during the holiday season. In a time of loss due to fire, the Daly City firefighters are the ones who see first-hand, the devastation when a child is left without a favorite toy. Donations of toys are graciously accepted throughout the year at any firehouse. The program is run strictly on donations to ensure that proceeds go to the children at Christmas time.

The Toy Program is the cities largest and the nation’s oldest program of its kind. Since 1949, it has evolved from a few firefighters repairing broken toys and bikes for 15 families too, in 2018, 300 firefighters and friends volunteered their time to distribute over 200,000 toys to more than 40,000 disadvantaged children. Besides helping individual families in need, the Toy Program serves many community organizations, including shelters for abused women and children, inner-city schools, children’s cancer wards, and pediatric AIDS units. We also respond on a year-round basis to displaced children who become victims of fires, floods, and other such disasters.

Olympic Continuation High School

Most students at Olympic High School have faced some challenges at their comprehensive high schools and are attending this school in order to earn credits to return to a comprehensive high school, earn credits to graduate, or work towards a GED. One thing all of these students have in common is that they want to graduate. Due to many factors, these students do not have all the tools they need to be successful in the classroom or through distance learning. Teachers often spend their own money in order to provide students with necessary supplies for standard and enrichment lessons.

The mission of Olympic High School is to help students achieve academic goals, develop appropriate interpersonal skills, make intelligent independent choices, and become self-directed and responsible.

The purpose at Olympic High School is to meet the needs of students who, for a variety of reasons, are not on track to graduate from high school. Teachers and staff use standards-based instruction, best practices, and data-informed decision-making to help each student get on track toward graduating from Olympic High School, graduating from her/his comprehensive high school, or passing the GED. We strive to teach both the academics and the life skills that will lead our students to be successful in college, technical school, and the job market and become responsible and productive citizens in the local and global community.
